WOW! Diva-ism Isn't Dead!
April 19, 2000 - Reviewer: Robert Highley from USA
With the recent comeback of bubble gum pop music, it is truly refreshing to hear a Diva such as Anastacia. If you like "sisters who can sang", you gotta get this one. She reminds me of one of the best Divas - Martha Wash. Everybody Dance Now!

Sounds like another diva that I know of....

Anastacia sounds eerily similar to dance diva Taylor Dayne. The similarity is stunning. Whereas Taylor has proven herself to be a diva, Anastacia still has some work to do. Given, "I'm Outta Love" is a good way to start. The original version sounds like something that Taylor would have done in her earlier days, it's the remix that kicks this one into gear.
Hex Hector works some more of his magic here with this one, turning "I'm Outta Love" into a fierce house jam. Matthias Heilbronn also does a little bit of reworking of his own. Whereas Hex's mix is a little harder, Matty's mix is waaayyy smoother, not as club heavy, but a nice mix anyways.
Ron Trent's remix is way too long, and kind of silly. It tries to hard to sound "cool". It tries to have a disco-sex-70's-feel to it, and it just makes a big mess of the song.
If Anastacia wants to become a full blown diva, she has to lose songs like "Baptize My Soul".
And just one more comparison to Taylor Dayne. If you compare the front cover of this single and Taylor's "Naked Without You" single you will see these similarities:
1- two women (supposedly) naked on the covers
2 - two women with their backs turned to the camera
3 - two women with blond hair flowing down their backs
4 - two women with tattoos on their lower backs
Could this be the work of record company execs trying to pass Anastacia off as the next Taylor? Or is my mind just working overtime?

Don't Pass This DIVA Off As Another "Britney Spears"

To do so would be FOOLHARDY! Now while Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera are wonderful pop singers, Anastacia is a whole new experience. For those of you who love the soulful singing of divas like Chaka Khan her days with Rufus, Patti LaBelle or Jennifer Holliday, you'll be blown away by this gal's VOCAL abilities. This one can belt it out.
Perhaps it was an insight from the marketing executives to show only the backside of this singer on her debut CD single. What a contrast to Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera, both of who's CD's sport pretty faces and sexy poses. Anastacia needs only to sing. Even Mariah Carey and Madonna had better be on the alert.
The cd single also has a bonus track titled "Baptize My Soul". Here, Anastacia's singing will evoke the likes of Chaka Khan. Both the title track and the Bonus song have great lyrics.
I truly cannot wait til the full CD is released. The remixes are all good but it's the vocal that is the meat here, the remixes are merely the "condiments". Usually to see big names like Hex Hector means that the song will likely be good because of the remix versions. NOT SO IN THIS CASE! Anastasia takes the cake and eats is too.

Not Outta Much!

When I first heard this track, I immediatley thought of Taylor Dayne. This soulful singer has the same vocal stylings as the legendary Taylor Dayne. I knew then that this track would be a winner.
"I'm Outta Love," Anastacia's first single is packed with some really cool remixes. The most notable is Hex Hectors Main Club Mix. The other two are okay but don't compare much to Hex's. The original radiot edit is not bad either. I recommend this single to all dance/club fanatics.

A Star to look out for

The first time i lay my eyes on this lady in Channel [v], i knew she is gonna be a MAJOR babe to look out for in these new mellienium. Her first ever single released "i'm outta love", would help to propel her into a higher stardom and give a fresh breath to the current mundane music scene filled with teeny-boppers.
If your like the remixes churning out from the kind of Whitney or Madonna, u will never regret getting this one. Highly recommended ! Bravo to Anastacia...

Great start for a new diva!

Anastacia is destined to be a club diva! Her voice is somewhat reminiscent of Taylor Dayne--very soulful. The mixes on this CD are great, but the album version of "I'm Outta Love" stands on its own just fine.

I've got the LOVE

This song is ok in it's original form (co-written by Jessica Simpson writers Louis Biancaniello and Sam Watters) -not strong enough for radio and I wouldn't call it "fierce". The remixes save it!
Hex Hector delivers a typical Hex mix -not as good as his mix for Coco Lee- but fine enough.
It's the fabulous, deep & sexy reworking by Matthias Heilbron that get's me everytime I play it! Like his work with Livin' Joy and H20/Billie, this mix just floats along and grabs you from underneath with those funky basslines.
The Ron Trent mix is also good -very different from Hex and Matt-, more smooth, seductive and relaxed. if you haven't heard the remixes yet, then you're in for a pleasant surprise -and get connected 'cause this girl is a Diva-in-waiting with a voice and style a lot like Taylor Dayne.
Though when I say Diva-in-waiting, I mean in it in the dancefloor sense. Beware that the original songs (including Baptize My Soul -co-written by Sturken & Rogers) are not that good -sounding like boring leftovers from the J Simpson CD! Long live the remix!

Outta this world!

What a huge debut for a cool new diva! This midtempo pop song is fierce in its original version, but Hex Hector lifts it right up to club proportions and works the chorus hard. Anastacia's voice is so dark and brooding that this can pass for underground sound as well as commercial sound. Hex is just unstoppable these days. Enjoy
